Memorial Felipe Tiago Gomes

Felipe Tiago Gomes (1921–1996) was an important Brazilian educator. Born in the city of Picuí, Paraíba, he is widely recognized for founding CNEC (National Campaign of Community Schools), one of the largest private and community education networks in Brazil. His main achievements include: Community Education. He created more than 2,500 popular schools throughout Brazil, focused on bringing free or accessible education to underprivileged youth and hard-to-reach regions. Origin of CNEC: The project began in 1943 in Recife, initially called "Campaign for the Poor High School Student," with the goal of supporting low-income students. Educational Activism: In addition to CNEC, he stood out for participating in campaigns to eradicate illiteracy in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. Felipe Tiago Gomes dedicated his life entirely to the cause of education, passing away in Brasília in September 1996.
