Inside the IDV Viking: the British robot heading to Eurosatory

The UK Defence Journal got up close with the latest-generation IDV Viking at the MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton, ahead of its unveiling at Eurosatory in Paris, and we were the only broadcast team there to film it. The Viking is a 6x6, four-wheel-steer, series hybrid uncrewed ground vehicle, and one platform built for many roles: logistics and casualty evacuation, an anti-armour missile carrier, a counter-drone weapon station, ISTAR and electronic warfare. It can be remote-controlled, teleoperated over a screen, or run autonomously, navigating without GPS using the British-developed MACE autonomy stack and the ATLAS GNSS-denied navigation system. Dr Geoff Davis, Managing Director of IDV UK, talks us through the platform, the latest design changes and its upgradable sensors and computing, and why a number of these could be fielded for the price of a single heavy armoured vehicle as the Army looks to multiply its lethality.
