a drive along Archer Avenue and environs, July 4, 1989.
when i was about 20, my ma and i went for a ride through our old neighborhood, garfield ridge, on the southwest side of chicago. i took my then-new zenith video camera along to record the drive for posterity. i knew i'd be glad i did even then, because i knew my neighborhood would slowly change and disappear into something almost unrecognizable. this time capsule starts at scottsdale plaza at 79th and cicero, skips to just past ford city, turns left on 55th, north on laramie, west on 54th past my childhood house, south on lockwood past st. camillus, back to 55th and west to archer, where it turns back eastward, jogs through 54th again, and ends just past miami bowl and the new orange line under construction. not the greatest quality, the sound has been removed, and again, i was only 20, but i treasure every minute of it.
