The summit of Wolchulsan is Cheonhwangbong, a site where rituals to Heaven have been performed since the Silla Dynasty. As the mountain is composed of rocky ridges, it is classified as one of Korea's three great rocky mountains and was designated as a national park in 1988. There are countless temples and waterfalls here; representative waterfalls include Gujeol Falls, Yongchu Falls, Chilji Falls, Euncheon Falls, and Daedong Falls, while temples include Dogapsa and Cheonhwangsa. After parking at the Cheonhwang parking lot, I headed up toward Cheonhwangsa Temple. The path splits at the Cloud Bridge and Baram Falls; I chose the Baram Falls path, which is slightly faster and leads to Cheonhwangbong Peak. Along the way, I saw the Yukhyeongje Rocks, passed through Tongcheonmun Gate, and climbed to Cheonhwangbong Peak. Continuing on, I headed toward Gujeongbong Peak, saw Beteulgul Cave, and descended from Gujeongbong Peak to the Three-story Stone Pagoda housing the Rock-carved Seated Buddha. Finally, I descended toward Daedongje Reservoir to return to the starting point, completing a round trip of approximately 14 km.
