Salvage crews have refloated the container ship Ever Given in the Suez Canal, which has been blocking traffic through this key shipping artery for nearly a week. "The MV Ever Given has been successfully raised and is currently being re-floated," Inchcape Shipping Services tweeted on Monday, March 29. Earlier, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced the resumption of salvage operations. Tugboats are currently attempting to position the giant vessel so it can resume transit through the canal. How long this will take is still unclear. More than 450 vessels are already backed up at the approach to the canal, awaiting passage. Each day of the canal's closure costs the global economy $9 billion. Some ships have already opted to take the much longer route around Africa to reach Europe.
