During the interview, Maradiaga referred specifically to the case of Indigenous leader Brooklyn Rivera, who disappeared for more than 900 days, and warned of alleged torture, isolation, and systematic human rights violations within Nicaraguan prisons. He also recounted his own experience as a political prisoner, describing inhumane conditions, extreme isolation, and total restrictions on communication. Maradiaga asserted that the regime maintains a policy of persecution against opposition members, Indigenous peoples, journalists, and civil society organizations, while strengthening alliances with powers such as Russia and China. He also called for greater international pressure from the United States, the OAS, and the European Union to demand free elections and respect for fundamental rights.
