[Reporter] At 10 a.m., the prison gates opened, and parolees in plain clothes lined up to come out. Singer Kim Ho-joong, wearing a black suit and a black mask, also left through the main gate. It has been 767 days since he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing an accident, and fleeing the scene in May of the year before last. Mr. Kim, who had been serving his sentence at the Seoul Detention Center following his arrest, was transferred to Somang Prison here last August. Sentenced to two years and six months in prison and scheduled for release this coming November, Mr. Kim recently passed the Ministry of Justice's parole review and will be released back into society five months early. It is reported that he has served more than one-third of his sentence and received a "suitable" rating in the prison life evaluation. An official from Somang Prison stated that Mr. Kim maintained harmonious relationships with the inmates while leading the prison choir. Outside the prison fence, dozens of fans dressed in purple welcomed Mr. Kim, holding banners with messages such as "Son, you worked hard" and "We love you." As the vehicle carrying Mr. Kim emerged, the fans cheered and welcomed him, but Mr. Kim left the scene immediately without a single word of greeting. Previously, Mr. Kim expressed a strong determination to sing again in a letter sent to his fans last April; however, his agency plans for him to focus on treating his ankle and regaining stability for the time being. Attention is focused on what moves Mr. Kim will make after his release from prison, as he sparked public outrage by attempting to cover up charges through so-called "drinking to cover up" or by having his manager turn himself in.
