First Macrolens Walk with the DJI Action 6 — A Tiny Lens in a Big Woodland
In this episode, I’m walking through the forest with the DJI Action 6, using the macro lens for the entire video. The camera offers three macro modes — Macro, Person, and Mountain — and throughout this walk I switch between them to see how each one behaves in real situations. My name is Glenn. I’m not a professional filmmaker — just someone, like you, who enjoys exploring what a small camera can do, and who simply enjoys looking at the result. About the lens This macro lens isn’t meant for action, and once attached the camera is no longer waterproof. It’s designed for close‑up shots — something action cameras couldn’t really do in the past. The small bokeh effect in Person mode can be fun, but it’s not a reason I would buy the lens for. Using the lens Switching between the three modes is simple: just rotate the ring on the lens. There are clear symbols for each mode. For this walk, I left the macro lens attached the whole time to see how practical it is and how the overall image feels when switching modes. Distances and image quality Macro works best at around 10–15 cm. Person mode at roughly 50 cm. Mountain is for anything farther away. The image becomes slightly softer compared to the original lens, with a bit of distortion and slightly washed‑out colors. Color and editing In the edit, I deepened the colors slightly to bring back some richness. I also applied a LUT and used a combination of sharpening and softening techniques in DaVinci Resolve to balance the image. Nothing heavy — just subtle adjustments to match the atmosphere of the forest. Who this lens is for Great for: • cinematic close‑ups • nature filmmakers • detail shots • a bit of creative POV work Not ideal for: • action • rain or snow • fast movement • people who switch often between macro and the normal lens About the walk The forest was quiet, with soft light and muted colors. I walked slowly, stopping to film small details — branches, leaves, moss. The Action 6 is small but precise, and in macro mode you notice things you’d normally pass by. If you enjoy quiet, cinematic nature content, feel free to subscribe. More episodes are on the way — from up close, from far away, and sometimes… from above.
