The Best Place to Photograph Puffins in Iceland is Grímsey Island!
When I was planning my trip to Iceland, taking photos of Puffins was at the top of my list of things to do. The challenge is choosing where to photograph them as there are many hot spots and there is not a lot of definitive information available online. After much research, I decided to go to 2 places. It's a good thing I chose 2, because the Latrabjarg Cliffs ended up having terrible weather and I couldn't go. I instead focused on Grímsey Island, and that was a wise choice. Grímsey has a bird population of over 1 million during the summer in comparison to it's 10 residents. There are only 3 "hotels" and 3 ways to access the island; Cruise, Ferry, or Flight. With this island being in the Arctic Circle, the midnight sun provides round the clock photo opportunities if you stay over night, which I did. I loaded up my tiny rental car on the Saefari and booked a room at one of the guest houses. They solitude, peace, and abundance of Puffins made this the prime location for photographing them and the other birds on island. Just have a watch of the video and also check out my other Grímsey Island vids for more things about this amazing spot! Mahaloz, y'all! Nate Solo
