The heat wave that has swept across Europe has affected France's nuclear energy model. In southern France, at the Golfech nuclear power plant, the rising temperature of the Garonne River has forced the shutdown of one of its reactors. Environmental regulations stipulate that when the temperature of the water used to cool the reactor exceeds 28 degrees Celsius, it cannot be used due to the risk it poses to the river's flora and fauna.
