The Poor Clares of Alexandria
Since July 7th 1977, the Poor Clares have been quietly praying for all the people in the Arlington Diocese behind their monastery walls in Alexandria, Virginia. Bishop Welsh gave them a special mission to pray for vocations to the priesthood. The Poor Clares follow the rule of Saint Clare and make vows of poverty, chastity, obedience, and a fourth vow of enclosure. For the year of Consecrated Life, the Arlington Catholic Herald interviewed four of the sisters to talk about their vocation and unique way of life.
