Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum & JPY Introduce Bay City Rollers- April 3, 1977- 100th Episode

A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the 100th Countdown episode which originally aired on April 3, 1977, on the ABC. This clip features Molly Meldrum along with Australian singer John Paul Young (also known as JPY) in Countdown's Melbourne studios, introducing a 100th episode ident from Scottish band the Bay City Rollers (from Edinburgh). The clip ends with Molly leading into English band Smokie's single 'Living Next Door To Alice'. Vaxfacts: At the time, the Bay City Rollers consisted of singer Les McKeown, guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, bassist Pat McGlynn, and drummer Derek Longmuir. As Molly noted, JPY was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His family immigrated to Sydney on Australia Day, January 26, 1962, when he was 11 years of age. John Paul Young has a significant place in Countdown's history- he came up with the name for Molly's music report segment 'Humdrum', when once guest hosting the show in the mid-1970s, lead into Molly's report by saying, "Here's boring old Molly with boring old humdrum."
