"Now the point has been reached where the silent majority of this country must finally reclaim democracy (...)," is probably the most famous statement made this year by Hubert Aiwanger, chairman of the Free Voters party. Aiwanger is often criticized for his language. But what is the Bavarian Deputy Minister-President's goal with this way of speaking? Aiwanger's words resonate particularly in Upper Bavaria, according to Roman Deininger, chief reporter for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. There is widespread dissatisfaction with the coalition government's policies, especially in rural Bavaria, which aligns with Aiwanger's demands. The Free Voters leader explains that he wants to address his criticism directly. He sees his communication as keeping him close to the people and insists he has no intention of dividing society. It is simply the case that a large majority in the country is at odds with the coalition government, and there is currently no majority for the government: "But those currently in power are not truly living this democracy and are governing against the majority." Hubert Aiwanger also has criticisms of the personnel in the government: "And a good-for-nothing is also someone who sits in government, has no high school diploma, feeds people nonsense, has never worked a day in their life, and ultimately drives things into the ground." The editor-in-chief of "The Pioneer" is concerned by Aiwanger's choice of words. Currently, one can see many conspiracies and parallel societies proliferating rapidly. A democratic politician like Mr. Aiwanger, with his communication style, is more likely to promote this development than to combat it through joint political work.
