Three members of the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit were killed after being attacked by a group of people while conducting an operation against a narcotics distribution network. The operation began with a public report regarding suspected methamphetamine distribution in Tumbang Kalemei Village. The investigation led to a target identified as BIO, a known repeat offender in narcotics cases. Twelve personnel from the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit were deployed and divided into two teams to carry out the raid. The target was initially apprehended. However, the situation changed when several people inside the house and local residents resisted using sharp weapons, including machetes. The crowd then continued to arrive and attacked the police officers using sharp weapons and homemade firearms. In the desperate situation, the officers attempted to escape and called for reinforcements. Some officers were even forced to swim across the Katingan River and take refuge in the forest. In the incident, First Inspector Anumerta Yudhi Perdana Putra died at the scene. Two other officers, First Inspector Sumaryanto and First Brigadier Nopandri, were reported missing before being found dead in the Katingan River on separate days. Police have arrested one of the suspected attackers while on a gold prospecting boat in the Katingan River.
