Варяжская гостья - опыт восстановления внешнего облика костюма скандинавки 10 века.
Pskov archaeologists discovered a find that became a scientific discovery and told new facts about the life of Pskov in the 10th century. The excavation was carried out on Sovetskaya Street, which in ancient times was called Velikaya and led from the entrance gate to the city to the Kremlin. Nearby are the chambers of the merchant Podznoev and the Staro-Voznesensky Monastery. The works were precautionary, protective, - scientists did not expect to find anything earlier than the 15th century, but they discovered three Scandinavian chamber burials of the 10th century. The burial chamber is a wooden frame in deep pits under the barrow. The burial ground is not for the poor peasant. One of them is the burial of a noble woman in a Scandinavian costume. Many thousand-year-old items have been found: jewelry made of precious metals, bronze scales, glass beads. Only isolated bones were found in the second chamber. The third chamber is also female. All three burials are the burials of VIPs. One of the chambers was made of wood, previously used as part of a residential log house. The discovery of a necropolis with rich Scandinavian burials puts Pskov in the 10th century on a par with Kiev, Smolensk and Chernigov. Even in the Middle Ages, the graves were robbed, but details of wooden furniture, candles, silk fabrics in which women's jewelry was wrapped were preserved. Silver jewelry - shell-shaped brooches, which fastened the straps of the upper sundress, earrings, hryvnias. In the utility compartment there were utensils, household items, and the compartment where the remains were located was a chest in which there were tissues. Four types of fabric were used in clothes. At that time, the Scandinavians valued flax, which served as an indicator of wealth. These unique finds of the 2004 archaeological season were presented in the Pskov Kremlin's Order Chambers at an exhibition called "The Secret of the Varangian Guest". Many thanks to Astakhova Anastasia for the opportunity to make this project a reality. The video shows photos of real archaeological finds - textile and other elements of the costume, the stages of sewing and installation of paired brooches, as well as the final version of the reconstruction of the Scandinavian costume from Pskov of the 10th century. This video will be useful not only for Viking Age reenactors and members of the living history community, but also for anyone interested in fashion history. 00:00 Introductory part, archeology of the find. 02:00 Choice of fabrics, finishing methods, pattern. 04:17 Assembly of paired brooches. 05:05 Dress and apron (sarafan) are ready. 05:38 Supplementing the costume with warm clothes - a caftan. 06:05 Final.
