Former YSRCP Speaker Tammineni Sitaram and members of his family have been booked in a criminal case over the alleged illegal occupation of a land parcel worth approximately ₹4 crore in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. A total of 13 people have been named as accused in the case. Tammineni's son, Tammineni Nani, has been named as Accused No. 5 (A5), Tammineni Sitaram as A6, and his wife Vani as A7. According to the police, the accused allegedly attempted to grab the property by creating forged documents falsely declaring the original landowner deceased while he was still alive. The disputed property consists of 922 square yards located in Plots No. 84, 85, and 86 at Chapuram, under the Balaga area of Srikakulam. The land was originally purchased in 1988 by Katta Kanakalingeswara Rao from the layout developer Andavarapu Govindarajulu. After Kanakalingeswara Rao's son, Jayakishore, settled in Hyderabad, the land remained vacant. According to the investigation, the accused allegedly took advantage of the vacant property and prepared a fake death certificate showing that the original layout owner, Govindarajulu, had died, even though he was reportedly alive. They also allegedly created a fraudulent family member certificate, identifying a woman from Odisha, Adabala Rajani, as Govindarajulu's sole legal heir. Police allege that Rajani was paid ₹20,000 to facilitate the scheme, following which the land was registered in the name of Tammineni Nani in 2023. Rajani has been named as Accused No. 1 (A1). The case came to light when the accused allegedly began constructing a compound wall around the property. Jayakishore's family objected, claiming ownership of the land. During the confrontation, another accused, Satish Kumar (A2), allegedly threatened the family, stating that the construction was being carried out on the instructions of Tammineni Sitaram. Following complaints filed by the victim before the court and the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the police launched an investigation. Although Tammineni Sitaram reportedly obtained a stay order from the High Court, arguing that the matter was a civil dispute, police stated that the alleged creation of forged documents declaring a living person dead constitutes a criminal offence, prompting further investigation. Investigators allege that the forged documents were prepared with the assistance of document writer Koona Peddiraju, while employees of Tammineni's degree college were allegedly used as witnesses during the registration process. Sub-Registrar Boddepalli Aruna, who allegedly processed the registration in violation of legal procedures, has also been named in the case as Accused No. 13 (A13). So far, eight accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Police have reportedly seized fake rubber stamps, mobile phones, and other evidence during the investigation.
