We All Are One: Divar Bonderam, Piedade, August 26, 2023, Goa

The second part of Divar's famous Bonderam festival took place on August 26, 2023 on the Piedade side of the island of Divar in central Goa's Ilhas de Goa/Tiswadi taluka. All villages of Ilhas de Goa celebrate the konsachem fest, or harvest festival, in August. Bonderam is Divar's konsachem fest. The first part of Bonderam took place on August 19, 2023 on the Sao Matias/Malar side of Divar. The Piedade Divar Bonderam, celebrated by vaddos of Piedade, Goltim and Navelim, was organised by Piedade Youth Association: https://goo.gl/maps/7NuiWNjDRN2Cj3Q2A The festival began at 4 pm with the Bonderam theme song and fancy dress competition. Then came the marchers with the flags (banderias/bonderam) and brass band, Konkani music special and street parade featuring beautiful and intricate floats, traditional dance and music. This year, some of the float themes were unity in diversity/communal harmony, monsoon fruits and vegetables of Goa, medicinal herbs and plants, etc. The villagers celebrate the festival with colourful flags, or bandeiras in Portuguese, and bonderam in Konkani. Many villagers brought the traditional fotash, a pop gun made out of bamboo stem, used to shoot teflam seeds, to the celebrations. The fotash was traditionally used by villagers of Malar and Piedade in a mock battle. Bonderam is also a happy celebration of the longstanding rivalry between Malar and Piedade.
