From remote mountain camps above 4,000m to breathtaking high-altitude passes reaching 4,700m, this becomes one of the most challenging sections of our entire journey across China. We experience life at extreme altitude, explore remote Tibetan regions, meet friendly locals, and discover some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in western China. Along the way, our UNIMOG begins to struggle in the thin air, leading to a cooling system scare that forces us to stop and investigate at the roadside. The G318 is often considered one of the world's greatest overland routes, crossing dramatic valleys, snow-capped mountains, high plateaus and remote Tibetan communities. This section between Shangri-La, Litang, Batang and the high passes of western Sichuan shows a side of China that few international travellers ever experience.
