Oyebanji Makes History, Wins With 319,224 Votes in Ekiti Governorship Poll

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made history as the first incumbent governor to secure re-election since the state’s creation in 1996. He won a landslide victory with over 319,000 votes, far ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party’s 40,000 votes and the African Democratic Congress’s 12,000 votes, reinforcing APC’s dominance in the South-West political landscape. Beyond Ekiti, by-elections were held in Enugu, Nasarawa, Rivers, Ondo, Kano, and Kebbi states to fill vacant legislative seats in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and State Assemblies. These contests once again placed Nigeria’s electoral process under scrutiny, with attention on voter turnout, credibility, and allegations of vote buying.
