Let's listen to a unique lecture on the perspectives of philosophy and our emotions, narrated by Ulus Baker. This is the second part of the lecture on May 21st. This lecture focused primarily on affects, or emotions. This is a review of the concepts discussed in previous lectures. We began with perspective and expanded upon previous lectures to explore various topics. We explored the concepts of infinity, free will, the concept of God, how different thinkers viewed these notions, and finally, the concepts of power governing society. We focused extensively on affects. Thomas Hobbes (April 5, 1588 – December 4, 1679) was an English philosopher who espoused materialism in philosophy, the ethic of pleasure in ethics, and monarchy in politics. John Locke (August 29, 1632 – October 28, 1704) was an English philosopher and pioneer of English classical liberalism.[2][3][4] He was the first writer to coherently summarize the fundamental ideas of constitutional democracy. Leo Strauss (/straʊs/ STROWSS, German: [ˈleːoː ˈʃtʁaʊs]; September 20, 1899 – October 18, 1973) was a 20th-century German-American scholar of political philosophy. Born in Germany to Jewish parents, Strauss later emigrated from Germany to the United States. Michel Foucault (French pronunciation: [miʃɛl fuko]; birth name Paul-Michel Foucault) (born October 15, 1926, Poiters, France – died June 25, 1984, Paris, France) was a French philosopher, social theorist, historian, literary critic, anthropologist, psychologist, and sociologist. Charles-Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu (January 18, 1689 – February 10, 1755), better known as Montesquieu, was a French political thinker. Gilles Deleuze (January 18, 1925 – November 4, 1995) was a French writer and philosopher. He was active in the second half of the twentieth century. While developing his own distinctive thought, he published monographs on Spinoza, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, Bergson, and Foucault, offering radical critiques of these philosophers' positions within the traditional history of philosophy and the ways they were interpreted within it. James Mellaart (November 14, 1925, London – July 29, 2012, London) was an archaeologist known for his significant prehistoric excavations in Anatolia, such as those at Çatalhöyük and Hacılar Höyük. #ulusbaker #philosophy #love #romance #art #spinoza #medieval #heidegger #deleuze #descartes #kant #freud #art #aesthetics #nietzsche #effects
