MN 63: Cūḷamālukya Sutta - 10 Speculative Views & Simile of the Arrow | 10-Minute Majjhima
The Cūḷamālukya Sutta (The Shorter Discourse to Māluṅkyāputta) - https://suttacentral.net/mn63/en/sujato SUMMARY: Venerable Māluṅkyāputta is dissatisfied that the Buddha has not answered questions about metaphysical issues such as whether the world is eternal or not, whether it is finite or infinite, and various questions about existence after death. Using the famous parable of the poisoned arrow, the Buddha explains that a person struck by a poisoned arrow who refuses treatment until learning irrelevant details would die before getting answers. Similarly, these speculative questions don't lead to disenchantment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment. Instead, the Buddha teaches the Four Noble Truths because they are beneficial and directly lead to the end of suffering.
