Prerequisites, Purview & Fabric Integration | Module 4 | Purview Data Map Masterclass

In Module 4 of the Microsoft Purview Data Map Masterclass, we perform a hands-on walkthrough of the prerequisites for integrating Microsoft Purview Data Map with Microsoft Fabric. During this demonstration, we’ll review and verify: • Microsoft Fabric and Purview are in the same Microsoft Entra tenant • An active Microsoft Purview data-governance environment is available • The Purview system-assigned managed identity is enabled • The required Purview role groups and permissions are assigned • A dedicated Entra security group is available for the managed identity • The required Microsoft Fabric tenant settings can be configured • Purview can use Fabric’s read-only administrative APIs We’ll also explain the difference between the Purview Administrators and Data Source Administrators role groups and identify which permissions are needed to register data sources and manage scans. This practical walkthrough prepares both environments for the Fabric data-source registration and scan configuration covered later in the course. It also reinforces that Purview’s permissions apply to metadata management and do not grant access to the underlying Fabric data or assets.
