Over his tour on the drill field, he trained 7 recruit platoons and held every key role within Marine Corps recruit training: Drill Instructor Senior Drill Instructor Chief Academics Instructor Unit Chief Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge (SNCOIC), Academic Instruction Unit (AIU) Curriculum Developer — MCRD San Diego and MCRD Parris Island Chris was a two-time Merit Board winner — recognized at his command for sustained excellence on the drill field. That record led to his hand-selection as 1 of only 10 Drill Instructors from across all five battalions of MCRD Parris Island to compete at the annual Depot Meritorious Promotion Board. On January 2, 1997, before a board of 10 Sergeants Major, 1 Colonel, with 1-Star General sign-off, Chris was ranked #1 of 10 and meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant (E-6).
