Mōri Series, Episode 10 The story takes place in the mid-Sengoku period. In December 1528, the first year of the Kyōroku era (1294-1310), Ōuchi Yoshioki, the lord of seven provinces, including Suō and Nagato, passed away. Upon receiving news of this, Amago Tsunehisa seized the opportunity and launched an invasion of Iwami and Bingo. Tsunehisa's third son, Shioya Okihisa, was entrusted with the attack on Iwami. He led the Akaanatai (Red Anatai), a contingent of Iwami's Ogasawara and Takahashi troops, and set out to seize the Iwami Silver Mine, one of the Ōuchi's sources of funding. However, he faced desperate resistance from the Ōuchi forces and struggled to capture the mine. Meanwhile, Ōuchi's allies, Aki Province lord Mōri Motonari, took action. After receiving a justification for attacking Takahashi from Ōuchi Yoshitaka, the late Ōuchi Yoshioki's successor, he invaded Takahashi's territory, which was left vulnerable in its absence. With reinforcements from local lords in Aki and Bingo, the Mōri forces took control of Takahashi's territory over the course of roughly six months, holding off the Amago's invasion of Iwami from the south. With the Mōri's advance north, Shioya Okihisa lost troops like Takahashi and Ogasawara, and finally abandoned his invasion of Iwami, retreating to Izumo. Although Mōri Motonari had more than doubled his territory, he realized that governing it would take time, so he devised a strategy to drive a wedge between the Amago and Takeda clans and keep them from turning their attention to the Mōri. The strategy was a brilliant success, and with the backing of temples and shrines such as Kitsuki Taisha Shrine, Shioya Okihisa rebelled against his father, Amago Tsunehisa. Furthermore, within the Takeda clan, he succeeded in causing a rift between Takeda Mitsukazu, the head of the family, and Kumagai Nobunao, the chief vassal and lord of Takamatsu Castle. After repelling Takeda Mitsukazu's move to subjugate Kumagai, Kumagai Nobunao decided to remain a Mōri vassal. Takeda Mitsukazu, still unaware that his territory had been ripped away by Motonari's plot, was planning his next steps at his castle, Ginzan Castle...
