For years, a monk lived at the top of this solitary rock pillar, standing about 40 meters above the ground. With a small church and living quarters, he led an isolated life, completely cut off from the modern world. The only way to get to the top is via a narrow and steep staircase… and it’s closed to most visitors. Today, no one lives there, but the years spent there make it one of the most interesting and lonely places in the world. After this experience, I turned my route towards Chiatura. This is a completely different world… a mining town from the Soviet era. Old cable cars, gray buildings, and a harsh atmosphere. Time seems to have stopped here.
