LeetCode 978: Longest Turbulent Subarray | O(n) Sliding Window Style Solution | Python
In this video, we solve LeetCode 978: Longest Turbulent Subarray. This is a very interesting array problem where we need to find the longest subarray in which comparison signs keep flipping. For example: 4 gt 2 lt 10 gt 7 lt 8 Here the signs are alternating, so this is a turbulent subarray. In this video, we will understand: What a turbulent subarray means How comparison signs work between adjacent elements Why equal elements break turbulence How to reset the current length properly Why the optimal solution is O(n) time and O(1) space We will first discuss the brute force idea, then move to the optimal approach, write pseudocode, implement the Python solution, dry run it on the sample input, and finally discuss critical mistakes. Problem: LeetCode 978 - Longest Turbulent Subarray Difficulty: Medium Topic: Arrays, Sliding Window, Dynamic Pattern Tracking Code idea: If the comparison sign flips, extend the current turbulent length. If elements are equal, reset length to 1. If the sign repeats, reset length to 2.
