Last month, Taiwanese prosecutors indicted Lin Chen-yu, a reporter and anchor for the Taiwanese cable network CTiTV, on charges including violations of the National Security Act and the Anti-Corruption Act, and the case is currently being heard in the competent court. Sources stated that Lin Chen-yu received funds from China to foster public opinion critical of a campaign to oust legislators from the pro-China opposition Kuomintang (KMT). They also explained that he provided money to certain Taiwanese soldiers and collected sensitive military secrets. Furthermore, they added that information regarding war games for the Han Kuang joint military exercise (preparing for a Chinese invasion), control meetings for joint live-fire exercises involving the three branches of the military, troop deployment adjustment plans for specific operational zones, annual operational training meetings of a certain military corps, and missile base operations meetings was leaked through Lin Chen-yu. Sources reported that, in particular, the list of administrative staff at Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense Military Intelligence Bureau, intelligence agent equipment reports, and documents related to the Taiwanese military's 333rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and the 66th and 99th Marine Brigades—which have engaged in military exchanges with the U.S. military for years—were leaked, and that there is a possibility that the investigation will expand. Earlier in January, Taiwanese prosecutors detained Lin Chen-yu and five active and retired military personnel at the Kaohsiung Detention Center in southern Taiwan on charges of violating the National Security Law and the Anti-Corruption Law. The charges against them were reportedly confirmed during the investigation of an active-duty Taiwanese soldier who staged and filmed himself holding the Five-Starred Red Flag and appearing to surrender to the Chinese Communist Party, then distributed the video.
