The downfall of an Appalachian coal town... ( Williamson, West Virginia - Mingo County )
After exploring many places in eastern Kentucky, I decided it was time to finally make my way over to West Virginia. My first stop in West Virginia was the lovely Appalachian city of Williamson (Mingo County). In this video I take you deep into the city and try to view it from all angles - from the history to the local food to the local sights and sounds... As with many towns out in Appalachia, troubles abound. Whether it be addiction, poverty, health issues, etc - they are certainly no strangers to hard times. That being said, like all Appalachian communities, there is an ever-present sense of pride and strength in these resilient people who call these Appalachia hollers their homes.
