🍯 June in Warré Hives: Preparing for the Harvest Without Disturbing the Colony with a Queen Excluder June is a key period in the apiary. It's the time when I identify the Warré colonies that are likely to produce a honey harvest. To do this, I carefully observe the hive activity, their dynamism, and the fill level of the brood boxes. On the selected colonies, I place a queen excluder under the boxes intended for harvesting. The goal is simple: to prevent the queen from laying eggs there so that the bees dedicate this space exclusively to storing nectar and honey. This intervention has a second advantage: it facilitates the future use of the bee escape during harvesting. The boxes remain free of brood, making them easier to remove with less disturbance to the colony. I also take advantage of this period to work on hives where some boxes contain old wax that needs replacing. By installing a queen excluder early enough, I prevent any new brood from being laid in these frames. When it's time to replace the queen, the frames or combs are free of brood, which greatly simplifies their removal while promoting good hive hygiene. In this video, I show you how I identify promising colonies, the criteria I use to decide when to install a queen excluder, and my strategy for replacing the wax combs in Warré beekeeping. 👉 A simple practice that allows you to anticipate the harvest, preserve honey quality, and maintain healthy colonies in the long term. 🎬 Video: How to harvest honey without weakening your bees in a Warré hive?    • Comment récolter du miel sans affaiblir se...   🌿 Team Warré Hive A channel to share natural beekeeping, respectful of bees and inspired by the practices of Abbé Warré.
