But wait - don’t forget your keys! Or your sippy cup, or your shoes, or your…hula hoop? You read that right! If you have a young child, you KNOW they sometimes can’t leave your home without the most random things! By the time I help my kids get all of their stuff ready to go, I’m already worn out! This song is a silly movement game based on the common parenting adventure of simply trying to get out the door. Additionally, this year’s Summer Reading theme is “Adventure Begins At Your Library” so I wanted to write an interactive song that would be a good fit for adventure-themed storytime! This is a cumulative movement song, meaning each movement builds on the next. It can be a little tricky even for grown-ups! I had to practice quite a few times to shoot the video. In the tradition of other summer camp songs such as She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain, Johnny Works With One Hammer, and My Aunt Came Back, this song feels like a game to children, but incorporates lots of learning objectives: listening skills, following instructions, memorization, rhythm, coordination, gross motor movement, cross lateral movement, pantomime, and more! I hope your family, classroom, storytime crew, or camp group have lots of fun adventures with this one!
