Cocos Keeling Island, or Cocos Islands, is a remote island in Southeast Asia governed by Australia. Although it appears closer to Indonesia, south of Java, this small landmass in the Indian Ocean is an Australian External Territory. The Cocos Island population is mostly Malay and Muslim.
