The INSANE rise of Crazy Frog

If you were alive in the early 2000s, you probably couldn't escape Crazy Frog. The weird blue creature was everywhere: on TV, in mobile ads, as ringtones, and somehow even topping the music charts. But none of that happened by accident. In this video, I look at how Crazy Frog went from a strange internet sound to a global marketing machine, and why it's an early example of something we still see today. Companies spend huge amounts of money to force a brand into public attention. I also cover the ringtone subscription boom of the 2000s, how these services made millions through recurring charges that many people didn't even realize they had signed up for, and why the whole industry became so controversial. Along the way, we talk about where Crazy Frog actually came from. The original sound, The Annoying Thing, was created by Swedish impressionist Daniel Malmedahl in 1997. The Crazy Frog character itself was designed by Erik Wernquist, and the famous version of Axel F that became a worldwide hit was produced by Bass Bumpers.
