It Just 2 EASY Stitches To DIY Tailor

A lot of guys want to have better fitting clothes, but not everyone has the money or the space for a sewing machine. In this video I'm going to show you how you can tailor your clothes by hand. It's really easy to do and you can do it in a short amount of time. The first thing we need to talk about is the fact that the heart and soul of hand sewing isn't our right hand with our needle in it. It's actually our left hand. That's because it's our left hand that controls our stitch tension, or how tight or loose our stitch is going to be. For jeans you want a looser tension and for t-shirts and dress shirts you want a tighter tension. Next is the fact that our left hand also acts as the feed dogs, or the part on our sewing machine that feed our fabric through as we go along. Now let's learn some stitches. The first one is the running stitch. This is the stitch that you imagine hand tailoring to be. You just weave the needle and thread back and forth through the fabric. Don't use this stitch though, it isn't strong at all. The one we want to use is the back stitch. It's where you sew forward, and then loop your thread back through the previous stitch locking it in. That's going to make it super strong and great for tailoring jeans and chinos by hand. Lastly, we want to make a zigzag stitch by hand. When you tailor anything you want to cut off the extra fabric, and you're going to want to finish that raw edge using a zigzag stitch so it doesn't fray. Go from front to back with your thread, and then up and at a slight angle while looping it through the top creating a line as you go along.
