Templar Castle Network of Central Portugal

The Knights Templar didn’t just build castles in Portugal — they built a system. In this video, we tour a connected chain of fortresses and towers across central Portugal: hilltop strongholds watching valleys, river towers controlling crossings, and a legendary castle rising from a granite island in the Tagus (Tejo). Over two days, we follow the route from Penela and Soure to Pombal, the riverside village of Dornes, and the unforgettable crossing to Almourol — before finishing at Quinta da Cardiga, where Templar history later evolved under the Order of Christ. 📍 Locations featured Penela Castle Soure Castle Pombal Castle Dornes (Pentagonal Templar Tower + Church of Nossa Senhora do Pranto) Almourol Castle (boat crossing dependent on weather) Templar Interpretation Centre (Vila Nova da Barquinha) Quinta da Cardiga (currently undergoing renovation) Lunch stop: Basilic Restaurant (Pombal) Stay: Reinado de Dom Dinis Guest House (Dornes) — Jacques de Molay themed room 🎥 Related video Tomar — The Last Templar Stronghold:    • Tomar, Portugal: Exploring the Last Strong...   Blog post (extra detail + photos): - https://bermudarover.wordpress.com/20...
