"Bizen Ware: Its Glory and Revival" - Creating Bizen Ware, Vol. 4, Kiln Firing - Jun Isezaki, a Living National Treasure and Bizen ware artist, has pioneered new frontiers in Bizen ware by combining traditional Bizen ware techniques with modern forms. Bizen ware kiln firing is done using split red pine logs, day and night, over a period of about one week to ten days. Starting with a small amount of firewood, the temperature is gradually raised until a large amount is finally added, raising the temperature to around 1250°C. At the end of the firing, firewood is gradually added from the fire opening towards the chimney, and the lid is closed. Finally, all fire openings are sealed, and the kiln firing is complete.
