Ampex HS 100 Maintenance
This is a video of some of the maintenance routine needed for the Ampex HS-100 Disc Recorder, invented in 1967. This device was groundbreaking in that for the first time ever, any television video signal could be recorded onto this machine, run backwards, run forwards, run in slow motion, fast motion or become a freeze frame. Even animations were possible. All manipulations of the video could remain broadcast quality. The disc had a recording time of 30 seconds in 525/NTSC. The replacement for the HS-100 family of products began with the type C 1" videotape machine using AST (automatic scan track) such as the Ampex VPR-1 or Ampex VPR-2 in the late seventies. However, the HS-100 investments by broadcasters and post facilities remained in use well into the 80's before eventually being junked. www.dcvideo.com
