PUTINS KRIEG: Schock für Moskau! "Die Ukraine hat den russischen Vormarsch gestoppt!"
PUTIN'S WAR: Shock for Moscow "Ukraine has stopped the Russian advance!" According to local authorities, four people have been killed in attacks by the Ukrainian army on the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula. As the head of the authorities, Sergei Aksyonov, announced on Thursday, buildings in Simferopol and a regional train were targeted. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin was expected at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum the day after the Ukrainian drone attack on the forum. Three people were killed in a "hostile strike" against uninhabited buildings in Simferopol, Aksyonov stated on Thursday via the online service Telegram. Seven other people were injured. In addition, one person was killed in the drone attack on the train. According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, the Russian army intercepted and destroyed 272 Ukrainian drones overnight. On Wednesday, according to authorities, Ukraine attacked energy and military facilities in St. Petersburg shortly before the start of the multi-day St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Governor Alexander Beglov stated that no one was killed. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio subsequently warned of a "risk of escalation." According to Kyiv, Wednesday's attacks were aimed at disrupting the event, which is of significant importance to Moscow. President Putin was scheduled to meet with representatives of international news agencies on Thursday and deliver a speech on Friday. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to participate in an event on environmental issues on the same day. A total of around 20,000 visitors from 130 countries are expected at the economic forum, which runs until Saturday. The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has been organized annually by the Russian government since 1997. According to its own description, it is a platform for "dialogue between business circles from Russia, emerging markets, and the world." The Kremlin's economic advisor, Kirill Dmitriev, said on the sidelines of the economic forum that Europe needs Russian gas and oil for its "survival" in light of rising energy prices resulting from the Iran-Iraq War. The world is on the brink of a "very serious energy crisis" due to the "instability" in the region, he added. Europe should therefore "find ways to partner with Russia." Russian oil and gas are "indispensable" for Europe, Dmitriev said. President Putin had already expressed openness to Russian oil and gas deliveries to European countries in early March, given the rising energy prices caused by the Iran-Iraq War. However, he stated at the time that a "long-term and stable" cooperation was a prerequisite. Iran has largely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global trade in oil and liquefied natural gas, since the start of the war with the US and Israel at the end of February. The blockade has shaken world markets and caused oil and fuel prices to skyrocket. Talks about extending the ceasefire or even ending the fighting altogether have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. The US has temporarily eased sanctions on Russian oil. Europe has ruled out such a step. Western countries imposed energy sanctions on Russia after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nevertheless, Russian oil continues to be delivered to the EU, particularly via the Druzhba pipeline. Russian gas, in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG), also continues to reach Europe for the time being. According to analysts, imports reached their highest level in the first quarter of this year since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in early 2022. #ukraine #russia #war #putin #weltnetzreporter Subscribe to the WELT Netzreporter Channel / dienetzreporter WELT News Channel / weltvideotv WELT DOKU Channel / weltdoku WELT Podcast Channel / weltpodcast The WELT News Livestream http://bit.ly/2fwuMPg Top News on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2rQQD9Q The Media Library on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2Iydxv8 WELT News Channel on Instagram https://bit.ly/IGWELTTV WELT on Instagram http://bit.ly/2X1M7Hk A note from us: Due to the high Due to the volume of inappropriate and offensive comments, we are currently unable to allow further comments.
