A triangle is a plane figure formed by three non-collinear points connected by three line segments, thus having three sides, three angles, and three vertices. Elements of a Triangle A triangle consists of: Sides There are 3 sides. For example, in triangle ABC, the sides are AB, BC, and AC. Vertices There are 3 vertices. In triangle ABC, the vertices are A, B, and C. Angles There are 3 interior angles. The sum of the three interior angles of a triangle always equals 180°. Types of Triangles 1. Based on Side Length a. Equilateral Triangle All three sides are equal. All three angles are equal, namely 60°. b. Isosceles Triangle Two sides are equal. Two base angles are equal. c. Any Triangle All three sides are different lengths. All three angles are different measures. 2. Based on Angle Size a. Acute Triangle All angles are less than 90°. b. Right Triangle One angle is exactly 90°. c. Obtuse Triangle One angle is greater than 90°. Perimeter of a Triangle The perimeter is the sum of all the lengths of the sides of a triangle.
