THE IMPOSSIBLE ENCOUNTER

Your light, I swear, fell right in front of you, across the wall or maybe it followed you into nowhere. I found myself lost on a straight-line path, toward a destination pulling back just to pull me in. And yes you held me, without touching me. When I saw you, every face that reminded me of you disappeared and in forgetting them, I remembered you for the very first time… a brand-new memory, made of everything we never lived. I remember it every single thing that never happened, every detail of what never was. I felt the most uncertain certainty so vivid it was more real than any dream, a thing that only lived because we never lived it. I came so early you were already gone, tired of waiting for so long. And you arrived late far too soon and your absence was everything I could feel. I was so close that the melancholy of meeting you arrived before the distance did. Such a joyful kind of sadness like dragging myself five thousand feet above the ground, like flying over the underground. Do you remember when we forgot everything we hadn’t lived yet? Of course I don’t remember an entire eternity in a single moment. I came so early you were already gone, tired of waiting for so long. And you arrived late far too soon and your absence was everything I could feel. Transparency is the perfect hiding place the mystery so obvious. The key that opens the box that holds it.
