The biggest mistake in fertilization isn't a lack of inputs, it's misusing what you already have. In this video, I explain why applying fresh manure can lead to economic losses: nitrogen volatilization, nutrient lockout due to C/N imbalance, and biological risk from weed seeds and pathogens. From there, we move on to technical solutions: composting and bokashi as controlled thermophilic processes that sanitize and stabilize organic matter; vermiculture as a biotechnology that transforms waste into humus with a high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and humic acids that retain nutrients and water; and biofertilizers as highly efficient foliar nutrition tools through anaerobic fermentation. Finally, I connect everything to a circular economy model, comparing the cost of synthetic fertilizers versus producing fertility on the farm. It's not organic vs. chemical, it's efficiency: stop buying fertility and start producing it.
