【葛飾区亀有・栄真堂書店】レコード・玩具・古本お宝ザクザク 亀有の秘境の本屋

Stepping inside, you're greeted by a plethora of books, magazines, used records, nostalgic toys, and miscellaneous goods. While permeated with the atmosphere of the Showa era, it also features a curated selection of new books, making it a truly unique spot. Eishindo Bookstore is the entrance to a timeless space in the heart of the town of Kochikame. Located right outside the north exit of Kameari Station on the JR Joban Line, Eishindo Bookstore opened in 1957. Owner Noriyuki Tsukagoshi explains, "It used to be a small bookstore in front of the station, but then large chain stores started opening up. I thought this wouldn't do, so I gathered ideas and completely changed our selection." Having previously sold records, they also stock a selection of used records. In addition, they collect and sell commercial posters from the Showa era, soft vinyl figures, and nostalgic character goods and toys. While it might appear to be a used bookstore or antique shop at first glance, it's a legitimate new bookstore selling new books and periodicals. Furthermore, the shop is located right in front of a Tobu Bus stop and also serves as a vital part of the local infrastructure, selling bus passes. The shelves, carefully selected by the owner, feature sections dedicated to "social issues," "subculture," "walking," "movies," and "music," reflecting the latest new releases. "The 'issues' section covers social issues, politics, Japanese history, and even some philosophical books. I select books that offer hints for thinking about things," says Tsukakoshi. In addition, vintage books that harmonize with these genres are also on display, and it's not uncommon for visitors to stay for several hours. There's also a section for so-called "adult books," which are rarely seen in stores these days. It's mainly frequented by elderly gentlemen. The antique toys aren't expensive, rare collector's items; most can be purchased for a few hundred to a few thousand yen. "Some of our customers are enthusiasts and collectors, so we sometimes acquire items from them," says Tsukakoshi. You might just stumble upon an unexpected treasure. Mr. Tsukakoshi says that conversations with customers who love Eishindo Bookstore are what makes being a bookseller rewarding. "Through conversations with customers, we get to understand each other's hobbies and personalities. It's really rewarding when that translates into sales for the store, not just in terms of the amount of money," says Mr. Tsukakoshi. The owner says, "I really love books and records." He hopes to continue this business, enjoying it together with his customers while maintaining the status quo. In this unique space in Kameari, where Ryotsu from Kochikame welcomes you, you're sure to find something new.
