Rye is a small town with a medieval citadel at its heart located on England's south coast in East Sussex. In the centre you will find myriad narrow cobbled streets, half timber buildings, cosy pubs, arts & crafts, old curiosity shops, a Norman church and the 14th-century Ypres Tower, which formed part of Rye's defences and is now Rye Castle Museum. Famous inhabitants of Rye include Henry James the American/British author who moved here in 1897 where he wrote The Turn of the Screw. The delightful Georgian Lamb House, where he lived, is now owned by the National Trust and is run as a writer's museum.
