Trains at the new Merinda Park Station - Metro Trains Melbourne

In this video we visit the recently completed Merinda Park station on the Cranbourne Line in Melbourne's south east. Merinda Park station was rebuilt in conjunction with the duplication of the Cranbourne Line, which saw around 8km of track duplicated between Dandenong and Cranbourne. Platform 2 was opened on the 18th March 2021, with platform 1 having recently opened on the 13th February 2022; marking the opening of the newly duplicated line. Here at the new station we see a good variety of different Metro trains arrive and depart the station, including some new High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT's), and some older Comeng and Siemens trains which will both soon be withdrawn from the Cranbourne Line as more HCMT's enter service. I do quite like the new Merinda Park station; it feels like a more up-to-date version of nearby Lynbrook station which opened a decade earlier. The station has fairly decent amenities and is rather functional with good shelter and lift access to the platforms. My gripes are only minor; some public toilets would have been nice and so would have some additional platform entrances on the south end of the platforms (well there are exits but they're for emergency use only...) Some integration with the surrounding area would have been nice too although this would be difficult to achieve seeing the proximity of the Thompsons Road bridge and the adjacent car park from the old station. For instance while Merinda Park recently got a new bus route that terminates at the station (the 881 Merinda Park - Clyde North), the route terminates at a stop on Thompsons Road and not a purpose-built bus stop near the station. This means up to a five minute walk to transfer between the new bus route and the new station. Oddly enough the new station does have a bus stop at the car park but it isn't in use yet.
