¿Ya pasó el peligro? UNAM advierte que Chiapas seguirá registrando réplicas tras el sismo de 7.3

Carlos Valdés, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics at UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), explained that the 7.3 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chiapas is part of the natural activity of the subduction zone between the Cocos and North American plates. He added that aftershocks are expected to continue in the coming days, although with decreasing intensity. The specialist detailed that, at the time of the interview, the National Seismological Service had recorded 14 aftershocks, six of which exceeded magnitude 5 and one reached magnitude 6. He also emphasized that Chiapas is one of the states with the highest seismic activity in the country due to the interaction of tectonic plates and the presence of geological faults within its territory. Valdés urged the public to take advantage of this event to inspect homes and buildings for cracks or structural damage.
