A Grande Diversidade do Banhado do Taim

In the south of Rio Grande do Sul, between the municipalities of Rio Grande and Santa Vitória do Palmar, there is a unique and emblematic place of exuberant nature. The Taim Wetland, in its great expanse crossed by the BR 471 highway, is special for harboring a rich diversity of animal species. Of course, the highlight is the Capybaras (also known as Capinchos), which have there the main place where they can be found in the south. But there is also a great variety of bird species, lending a special color to the vast landscape of the place... Capturing images on a windy afternoon, we were able to see large flocks of cormorants and herons, as well as tapirucus keeping company with the capybaras... And in one particular image capture we were lucky, even though it seemed like we were seeing few animals... In the same scene, no less than six different species can be seen: the Southern Screamer (the symbol of the place), the Rabbit-eater (with its pink color), the small Seagull, another tapirucu, a Heron and a Black-headed Cacique... Not far from this group there was also a Savacu (a species we had already filmed in Imbé) keeping company with a Rabbit-eater... Despite being crossed by an important federal highway, the Taim Ecological Station, with its more than 10,000 hectares, is a Conservation Unit administered by the Chico Mendes Institute, a federal agency dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity... With this, it is likely, even if not yet confirmed. With the desired 30,000 hectares, we hope these species will be preserved.
