It's not just a postcard. It's not just a fridge magnet, a mug with our favorite team's name on it, or a place we've been. Scars are also a souvenir from vacations, or from life in general. Scars aren't necessarily bad. Scars don't necessarily have to be treated. And it's certainly true that you have scars on your body that you like, more or less. There are some that don't bother you at all. And there are some that you look at every day and think, "I don't want to see that scar again." And if you have one that you don't want to see again, I invite you to watch this video, and I'll tell you what you can do about it all. I'll start, as I always do, from a different perspective. And I know that if you're watching this video, you probably already have a scar. But that doesn't mean you won't get a new one. So, as always, I'll start by telling you that prevention is key. And no, I'm not saying you shouldn't fall or have surgery. My point is that the biggest mistake we make is waiting too long to act. That is, if we already have a scar from trauma or surgery, we wait too long to do anything. Then we wait for the scar to remodel, expand, become older, become harder, and simply become more difficult to deal with. This is important. We deal with scars from the very beginning. From the moment the stitches are removed after surgery, or from the moment the wound has healed. And sometimes even before that moment, but I'll get to that in a moment. We act with treatments. So, preventatively, we try to make the scar smaller, less visible, and softer. What happens in this situation? Let's start with standard post-operative scars, because they are often large, long, and very visible. And it's these scars that we most often dislike. In the case of a scar like this, once we've removed the stitches that brought the wound edges closer together, we should first consider using ointments that will loosen the scar, make it less itchy, and less stringy. These will significantly improve the healing of the wound itself, the tissue itself. An ointment that actually has a proven, proven effect is Sutricon ointment. Either as a gel or in patch form. This type of treatment is used for a very long time. It's not a week, it's not two weeks, it's at least three months. And often it's even longer – six months, even a year. Apply it twice daily, combined with massage of the scar, to loosen it. So it doesn't become so stringy and hard. All this will make it softer, more relaxed, won't pull on the surrounding skin, and this alone will make it less visible. In addition to ointment, massage, and scar loosening, we can apply it immediately after stitch removal, and sometimes even while the stitches are still in place or the wound is still ulcerated. We can use platelet-rich plasma or platelet-rich fibrin, which contain growth factors that help our bodies heal better, faster, and more properly. This will result in a smaller, less tense scar, and less work later. Another type of treatment, which prevents the formation of such a large, heavy, and difficult scar, is laser treatment. But not fractional ablative lasers, which we later use for older scars, but vascular lasers. This means we want to shrink the collagen fibers a bit and allow the skin to heal more properly. You've probably heard that scars remodel for a full year after the scar forms. And that's true. But once it's rebuilt, once it's in this "permanent form," we can make sure that this permanent form looks much, much better.
