Pressures Flows & Volumes in the Cardiovascular System
This video lecture illustrates how the vascular system, as whole, interacts with the pumping of the heart, to work toward and understanding of the systems interactions of pressure and flows coming into and out of the heart. Major learning objectives are: (1.) Define and interpret the relationships among blood flow, blood pressure, and vascular resistance; (2.) Describe how arterial and venous constriction affect afterload and preload. (3.) Define the relationship between ventricular filling and cardiac output (Starling’s Law of the Heart) and describes its importance in the control of cardiac output.
