In a brand-new Farmers Guardian series, From hill to ring: A Mule breeder’s journey, we will be following young farmer Charles Hancocks on his farm in Cumbria, from lambing time through to sale day, for a behind the scenes look at what goes into breeding the North of England Mule. Over the next few months, we will be showcasing the passion and preparation involved in producing Mule gimmers on-farm, as well as talking to those involved in the organising of the Kirkby Stephen North of England Mule Association (NEMSA) show and sale of Mule gimmer lambs - an important day in the breed’s calendar.
