Just A Shave: Paradigm Diamondback - Feather (3) - Cajun Blade BT Barbrshp - Wald S1 Nimbus

Trying the Wald S1 badger brush for the first time. And let's use the Diamondback and a soap from the Cajun Blade again. Razor: Paradigm - Diamondback Blade: Feather (3) Lather: Cajun Blade - Bon Temps Barbershop Brush: Wald - S1 Nimbus (1 uses) Post: Razor and Blade Notes - Paradigm - Diamondback ::: Feather (3 uses): Cut right through multiple days' growth as if it were nothing. But I did end up with some tenderness after the second pass, and some irritation after the third. But... it was feeling fine after a decent post shave splash. So this razor is a little deceptive, cutting very well while feeling smooth and carefree! Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 3 out of 5 (Good) Soap Notes - Cajun Blade - Bon Temps Barbershop: Them: "This is a true Southern barbershop fragrance: clean, masculine, and comforting without being dated. Bright citrus opens the scent, followed by warm spice and aromatic herbs, all resting on a smooth, woody base. It strikes the balance between fresh and warm, old-school and refined. Bon Temps Barbershop brings to mind straight-razor shaves, hot towels, and the unmistakable scent of a real barbershop—the kind that leaves a memory behind. It’s powdery and fresh, layered with just enough depth to keep it grounded and grown." Top: Mandarin, lemon, orange peel. Heart: Lavender, clove, bay leaf, hint of rum. Base: Sandalwood, cedarwood, amber, soft white musk. Me: The citrus, florals, herbs, and light powdery notes I picked out right away, in my first use, with no prior note review. I even searched deeper later in the shave and did pick up the white musk, which I'm surprised I got right. But after the second pass, I was picking up more floral-adjacent notes than I would like. I guess that would be the powdery notes and lavender, at least. I even thought to look for amber and woody notes but couldn't find them. In the end, the powdery type notes, with whatever floral type stuff is there (normally I like lavender okay, but maybe this presentation is different) Note that this was from a sample, but a fresh one. Scent strength: 6/10; lightly available during the shave Lather: I used a rounded 1/4 tsp of soap like I learned from last time. Worked great and gave me 5 passes of lather. It stayed kinda low structure, and took some mixing to get homogeneous. Visually it looked good in the bowl, moving like a thick marshmallow creme. In this shave, the slickness was not tip-top performance, perhaps because it is a superfatted soap, intentionally. Maybe those extra fats slow down this kind of razor head. But it was still very slick. Later, I would find out from /u/gcgallant that straight shavers don't have to worry about drag like DE shavers do. Makes total sense, since there is no safety bar or top cap to worry about. So maybe a straight user would lean toward those superfatted soaps or ones with more oils and butters. Hydration: Perfect (for me) 0.35 tsp soap with a Medium-Wet brush 17 ml (3.4 tsp) added to make lather = 5 passes of lather Bowl: Roger Quintero 3D Printed Bowl I use the XL version of this bowl. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:339... Brush Notes - Wald - S1 Nimbus (1 uses): Thanks, /u/shavinginct for the experience of using a Wald! First impressions were with a low-structure soap, and it did just fine, but seems to have some backbone under those soft tips. dense knot.. so backbone is 6-7 out of 10. tips feel soft when dry, but have a more natural feel when in use with a lather. A treated knot will feel softer. I really hope that I don't like this brush, and that it's not magic.... I really don't want to have to try to afford it and save up for so long. I always thought the Wald brush handles looked odd/ridiculous . But, it is practical and comfortable, which are its main jobs. And there are only so many distinctive handle shapes out there. *Shave Quality* During the Shave Feel: Cheeks: Light irritation showed up at end Neck: A little irritating After the Shave Closeness: Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave) I'm gradually adding answers to frequent questions here: http://www.sugardaddyshaves.com Wetshaving is the age-old shaving method where you create a lather from a soap or cream, usually with a brush. And these days, we also usually mean using a safety razor (aka double edge or DE) or single edge or straight razor to remove the hair. We often enjoy less irritated skin, healthier skin, more enjoyable shaves, and often closer shaves than those who use a multi-bladed cartridge and canned shaving foam.
