PADANG – West Sumatra – Best Things to do / Highlights – Travel Guide West Sumatra (Sumatera Barat) – the Land of the Minangkabau – was THE discovery of the year. I have traveled much, but since my visit to Bangladesh, I have not come accross any place that was so raw! Padang is truly wonderful Indonesia, without tourists. Because Padang is yet not very touristy, it remains relatively cheap. I have spent only 150 SGD in 4 days (450 MYR or 110 USD). This included the hotels, food, national park and island entrance feed, as well as the daily costs of 550’000 IDR (38 USD) for the driver. The best things that you can do in Padang are visiting the islands, West Sumatra Grand Mosque, Nasi Padang Restaurants, Rice fields in Padang Pariaman and the Museum Adityawarman (not shown as it was closed during my visit).
